Medical Expense Tax Credit (METC)

After many years of effort by Solarc Systems,
we are most pleased that the 2005 Canadian Federal Budget has now added prescribed phototherapy equipment to the list of medical expense tax credit eligible expenses.
To quote from page 40 of the 2005 General Income Tax and Benefit Guide:
"Under proposed legislation new eligible medical expenses will include amounts paid:
to purchase, operate and maintain phototherapy equipment for the treatment of psoriasis and other skin disorders;"
This means that you can claim the cost of a home phototherapy unit on your income taxes, on line 330.
The amount refunded will depend on your income and the total amount of your medical expenses.
This also means that some insurance companies that previously refused to cover these devices,
may now be more understanding, since their value is now officially recognized by our government.

"Phototherapy equipment – For 2005 and later years,
you can claim amounts paid for the cost of buying, operating,
and maintaining phototherapy equipment prescribed for the treatment of psoriasis or other skin disorders."
